Ponysaurus Becomes Partysaurus
Two guys put down their beers and grabbed a leg. A girl who was with them took a lot of pictures with her phone. You see, putting a 240 lb pig on a cooker isn’t easy. And we asked for volunteers. So, at 11 o’clock on Friday night, a crowd of people cheered as we got that first pig up and onto the smoker. And with that, the Salt & Smoke Roadshow began in the front yard of Ponysaurus Brewing in downtown Durham. Our very first stop. The wind blew and people crowded around the burn barrel to stay warm. Once everyone was gone, we sat on lawn chairs in sleeping bags to tend the coals. Somebody had to do it.
What a blast. Saturday was nearly perfect. By the time we were serving food, over 500 people were there. Big Fat Gap was the perfect accompaniment – bluegrass and barbecue are a dream date, if you didn’t already know. And we shucked oysters and chopped barbecue and told jokes for three solid hours – it was great. Kids danced. Ponysaurus rocked. And, well, day drinking in the bright sunshine of spring never sucks. Salt & Smoke hit the road. With a vengeance. And we couldn’t be happier.
